Le Tonnelet Restaurant in Spa
Philippe Lugens is a discerning cook who knows the right places to shop with good sense and discernment. I met Philippe in Liège in 2001, when he was masterfully running the’Emotional air where I spent some very pleasant moments. After thirteen years, he decided to come to the centre of Spa to the Belle Époque Success was on the cards in this pretty house. He has just moved to the heights of Spa, to Nivezé, to take over this establishment in a typical setting full of curves and surprises: The Little Barrel.
The locations are full of surprises, with a blend of metal and glass, right next to the eponymous mineral spring, a ferruginous and carbonated spring typical of the region. It is one of the 19 springs/pouhons in the Spa region. Its waters, originating from the Fagne de Malchamps massif, are renowned for their hidden benefits! A popular terrace is complemented by a welcoming children's playground, all in a very pleasant and exceptionally tranquil setting.
The interior is well worth a visit. You will be captivated by its unusual charm. Fabienne It is as efficient as it is amiable in presenting and serving the strengths of a small but charming menu (priced between €35 and €45 depending on your appetite), with standout dishes including frog's legs, duck foie gras terrine, veal cheek parmentier, lamb shank, and among some suggestions, mild Herve cheese croquettes and a "grand veneur" venison stew, not forgetting a lovely selection of very appetising desserts. A festive, gourmet atmosphere full of surprises prevails here. This search for simplicity, this delicacy of flavours, will delight and convince you with its charm and surprises: a cuisine of discovery that champions originality, freshness, and vibrancy. The wine cellar offers a subtle selection of reasonably priced wines with some delightful discoveries, all perfectly in harmony with the cuisine.
